Thespian Troupe # 5952
The International Thespian Society celebrates over 75 years and is the oldest honorary organization in the United States. It recognizes and rewards excellence among participants in the theatre arts program.
Our Thespian Troupe meets once a month and is involved in a number of theatre related activities, including but not limited to fund raising, community service as well as expanding our knowledge of theatre through attending the Georgia State Thespian Conference.
Membership is open to any student who acquires the necessary 10 points for Induction. Induction is usually held in January prior to State Conference. Students may bring up to 5 points from their community, church, professional or children's theatre experience. The other 5 points must be earned at their sponsoring school. These five points must come from 2 of the 5 categories (see point list posted on Thespian Bulletin board) and include participation in four acts (2 full length plays, one full length and 2 one acts, or four one act plays). The troupe's clerk will maintain a record of each member's points. It is the responsibility of each member to submit their points as they earn them.
Students are considered in good standing if they are current on their troupe dues ($15 for current members and $35 for inductees) and regularly attend troupe meetings. Members in good standing have the opportunity to be one of thirty students who go to State Conference in February where they have the chance to see shows, perform, audition for scholarships and take workshops from professionals in theatre. Students Are selected to go by lottery. There will be a waiting list.
Thespians are expected to be leaders in our department and school. Seniors who have earned 60 points are considered Honor Thespians and are awarded an honorary ribbon and medal to wear at graduation acknowledging their dedication to the art of theatre. |
